How Candi-Dating Works

Each candidate will have a designated table, and Chamber members can move throughout the room, choosing which candidates they would like to connect with.

Conversations will be kept short and focused, giving members the opportunity to speak with as many candidates as possible throughout the evening.

• Two-minute conversations: Members will have approximately two minutes to connect with a candidate.
• 30-second warning: A warning will be given when there are 30 seconds remaining.
• Buzzer: When the buzzer sounds, the conversation wraps up and the next member or group will have their turn.
• Choose your candidates: Members can decide who they would like to speak with and line up at that candidate’s table.
• Join the conversation: If several members are gathered at a table, participants are welcome to listen and take part in the discussion as a group.
• Come back for more: Members may return to a candidate’s table for another conversation if time permits.

Creating a Respectful Environment

Candi-Dating is intended to be a positive opportunity for candidates and members of Fernie’s business community to connect, exchange ideas, and learn from one another.

All participants are expected to engage respectfully throughout the event. Bullying, harassment, intimidation, or disrespectful behaviour toward candidates, campaign representatives, or attendees will not be tolerated.

A note from the Fernie Chamber of Commerce

In addition to Candi-Dating, the Fernie Chamber of Commerce hosts an All Candidates Forum, which is open to the broader public and provides candidates with an opportunity to respond to questions and issues from across the community.

The Fernie Chamber of Commerce is a non-partisan, independent organization and does not endorse individual candidates. The Chamber has hosted election events in Fernie for many years as part of its commitment to supporting an informed, engaged, and connected community.
